I’m really looking forward to speaking at WordCamp LA next month! It’s one of my favorite WordCamps and always a really good time. Frosty always knows how to put on a great event. I’m particularly excited about my topic, Responsive Widget Design. Last year I spoke about Responsive Web Design With WordPress at WordCamp San Diego 2011. A lot can happen in a year and building websites that can perform well on the desktop, as well as on tablets and smartphones has come a long way. As with any new movement some implementations are better than others. One of the areas that seem to be suffering are the widgets that developers are creating.
Most widgets were likely not created for responsive websites, so when added, they tend to break or don’t resize well for tablets and smartphones. There is a lot more to making widgets responsive than resizing. Some of the topics We’ll be covering include, fonts, textfields, button target areas and content stacking. This is going to be a great talk. If you want to get an update on what’s the latest with responsive web design and how to do it better, come check out my session on Saturday, September 15th. See you at WordCamp LA!
